Overview
This piece is a moving tribute to musician brothers Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and their inestimable contribution to music, to our culture and our communities. Sculpted in panels formed by ribbons of cut steel, like enormous guitar strings, sequences from their lives rise from the soil. Written in the metal, their lyrics tug at our heartstrings time and time again. A homage to their importance to us and to the city of Dallas. To a legacy that will live on to inspire the generations that succeed us.
Goals
The brief was for a tribute to the lives and work of musicians Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan. This was vital in every way to the coception and design of this artwork; hence we see a design that incorporates pages as from a CD album; guitar strings; 2D images sculpted subtractively to literally allow the words and images of the Vaughan brothers to shine with light in Kiest Park. A celebration of their contribution to Dallas, Texas and the entire world.
