Profile Type: artist
Basque artist Casto Solano Marroyo (Olazagutía, 1958), began his artistic trajectory studying Fine Arts and Industrial & Electronic Engineering. In 1984 he won his first public commission, and installed his sculpture, 'Freedom', on the streets of Basque capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz. Since then, he has enjoyed a long and distinguished sculptural career. Casto’s artworks explore themes of ecology, cohabitation, and exploration. They range in scope from intimate representations of the human form to complex, large-scale, structural works, and can be found in public spaces that are as diverse as the pieces themselves: from streets and pedestrianised areas, to parks, plazas and public gardens.
