My vision for a solar powered luminous layered glass public art as architecture has evolved from layered plexiglass paintings into an ambitious concept involving kiln fired glass and complex architectural installations. Working closely with the Dean of the School of the Arts and the Head of Development of a major east coast university, I have been developing this project for the last six months.
This is a 3D rendering of a proposed Luminous Community Center project for the campus of an east coast university. The interior and exterior walls of the building will be kiln fired glass laminated with plexiglass with LEDs embedded in the arms of the frames that make up the superstructure of the space.
We recognized that after wide spread social justice demonstrations in 2020, there has been a recognition by university administrators that the general mental health of their students, faculty, and community members requires more safe spaces, more public art that serves diverse needs, better places to allow people to connect and engage. This public-art-as-architecture project will serve to unify some of these needs in a multi-use space whose luminosity and aesthetic function will bring people together, day and night.
Working closely with the Dean of the School of the Arts and the Head of Development of a major east coast university, I have been developing this project for the last six months. And I have been fine tuning aspects of the design with expert public art fabricators, architects, my pubic art consultant, and a variety of the stakeholders in the communities that projects like this one will hopefully be made for.
