Overview
This was a purchase of an existing artwork. The artwork was originally an installation for a gallery exhibit themed around the Woody Guthrie song This Land Is Your Land. Grove consists of fifteen reclaimed wood posts, previously freeway guardrail supports, with carved relief, paint, and gold leaf. Each post is 64 x 8 x 8. The wooden posts that make up Grove were previously supports for freeway guardrails. The life-cycle of this old wood, from tree to freeway to abstract-forest, speaks simply about nature, human progress, and transformation.
Goals
The goal of the piece was to create a focal point in front of the offices of this family services non-profit. The "family group" quality of the installation seemed very appropriate to the location.
Process
Art consultant Ann Trinca sourced the artwork for the Foundation and they rented it for an initial period until settling on making the purchase.
