CODAsummit Brings Together Leading Creative Professionals in Art + Technology

MADISON, WI, March 20, 2019 – CODAworx, the hub of the commissioned art economy, announced today that it will produce the second annual CODAsummit: The Intersection of Art, Technology and Place in El Paso, Texas, on October 2-4, 2019. Building on the success of the first groundbreaking gathering in 2018, CODAsummit creates a platform for conversation at this milestone moment in art history when technology is playing a key role in major commissioned artworks. CODAsummit 2019 will focus on this paradigm shift by featuring artists who are using technology to create placemaking commissions and the collaborations occurring between artists, designers, architects, scientists, and technologists.

CODAworx is at the center of this global movement, placing it in a unique position to create a gathering of key figures in the art and technology worlds. Held at the prestigious El Paso Museum of Art and hosted by the El Paso Museums & Cultural Affairs Department, the conference will convene leading artists and industry companies to present artistic-technology collaborations around the world.  In addition, it will bring together thought leaders – museum curators, public art agency administrators, representatives from leading educational institutions – to develop critical thinking about the role of technology in placemaking art.
Keynote speaker Guto Requena (Brazil) will speak to the topic of love of place, and how technology can enable art to develop spaces that create well-being and happiness.  Keynote speaker Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (Mexico/Canada) will reveal plans for his large-scale, participatory art installation that crosses borders and brings people and cultures together.  Artist showcases and industry presentations will demonstrate the full scope of talent and creativity at work when art meets technology. A panel of leading commissioners will present original art environments that are interactive and engage viewers on multi-sensory levels.
“At CODAworx, we see artists collaborating with technology teams, scientists, and engineers to make places as art.  The amazing work they create is redefining the creative field, and we are honored to bring together the talent we’ve discovered from around the world,” said Toni Sikes, CEO of CODAworx.
Sponsors include Nokia Bell Labs, Epson, Signify, UAP, and the Acronym Fund, all of whom are dedicated to supporting the powerful connection between art and technology.
