Overview

The design team was charged with the task of creating 4 to 6 unique public art bus shelters for the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Corridor in San Antonio, Texas. Our main objective for this project was to create a comfortable and stimulating environment where the passing of time could be enjoyed by swaying on a porch-style swing or glancing upward toward a simulated night sky.

Goals

Urban Porch is a series of public art bus shelters which were designed and produced independently of which visually references the historical neighborhood vernacular and utilizes colors and patterns from Mexican textiles. Industrial materials and methods will be used to simulate iconographies of home while recreating some of the comforts.

Process

Public Art San Antonio selected the artist-led design team which consisted of Andrea Caillouet, Artist, Lisa Elena Reese, Designer, and Jack Harrison, Structural Engineer to design and manage all parts production from concept to completion including: conceptual renderings, materials research and selection, construction documents, and project management.
