Overview
Traveler was originally created for the Lincoln Park Sculpture Exhibit in 2006. Submissions were in the form of maquettes, after which stipends were awarded to ten artists. Traveler is ten feet tall and is welded stainless steel.
Goals
I was approached by the Village of Oak Park, IL. They expressed an interest in Traveler. The commission was to site the existing sculpture at a predetermined location. this location is an entry point into the neighborhood.
Process
The collaboration between myself and the Village was very fluid and focused on the placement, anchoring and maintenance of the sculpture.
Additional Information
The contract was a lease to buy situation. The Village of Oak Park leased Traveler for 4 years while they secured the remaining funds at which time they purchased the sculpture.
