Overview
Pieced Silk and LED Light | Five Panels: 48″H x 36″ W x 3″D
Goals
As a reaction to the demise of pollinators, the concept goal was to create an expression of turmoil and emotional instability alongside the beauty of flower-bee relationships.
Process
"The Screaming Dreams of Flowers" is a pairing of textile art and LED light. Arbitrary placement of colors and shapes within the composition are a result of Carson's signature sewing technique. Pattern and visual texture give reference to bee and flower imagery. Placing the work on a light box allows the seams to be amplified, providing a linear element beyond the glowing colors of the silk fabric. The colors and composition of the artwork read differently in day/night, and lit/unlit conditions.
Additional Information
Purchased by the City of Loveland, CO while on exhibit at Artworks Loveland, Colorado. The piece is on permanent display at the Loveland Municipal Building.
