Overview
Monumental steel sculpture using curved I-beams welded together is my passion. I began creating sculpture with hydraulically curved steel I-beams in the summer of 2018 starting with a 7 foot tall piece and after creating a total of 8 curved I-beam sculptures I reached the monumental size of 22 feet tall by 13 feet by 7 feet at the base. I had gained the attention of the local art community and was invited to The Satellite “Re-imagine” show a project of the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County. In the “Re-imagine” show I presented Yellow #8 a 9 foot tall by 3 foot by 3 foot steel I-beams piece from my 8 piece curved I-beams series.
Goals
The main goal was to create a curved I-beam piece that was compatible to both indoor and outdoor presentation. In order to meet the presentation requirements the design was created to permit the sculpture to pass through a single door entry point. The narrow entry restrictions resulted in a tall sculpture with a compact base and closely configured I-beam cluster. We were very please with the final piece and the sculpture was wonderfully received by the public.
