Overview
“The gold shirt” was a project in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Johnathan Schultz, tribute to Nelson Mandela.
Inspired by one of Mandela iconic batik silk shirts, the artwork was entirely handmade with 24 karat gold threads. From the hand-woven fabric to the hand-embroidered patterns, every single stage of the process was extremely meticulous and delicate. Also called “The Million Dollar Shirt”, the master piece became a mesmerising sculpture on its own.
Goals
Honouring Nelson Mandela's legacy and wisdom, the material "Gold" was chosen for its tenacity, rarity and energy. Emphasising the importance and crucial impact Mandela had on the rainbow nation as well as the rest of the world. To this day, his lessons, advices and leadership remain are most precious.
