Yes We Are Mad
Overview
This projection mapping art become a highlight of CODAsummit: Experience, an arts conference that took place in April of 2022 in Florida. The site of The Art of Projection was the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, a Modernist museum building in the “Venice of America.” Panasonic projectors cast the art on the building, while photographs and videos documenting this project were taken by Yes We Are Mad, a creative agency. People observed the projection mapping from multiple angles, and it could be seen from significant distances. By working together, the parties that realized this artwork helped bring a fun atmosphere to the area that evening, and also showcased how technology and art can influence an environment.
Goals
Symbolizing how the definition art is growing and the promise modern art concepts can have, The Art of Projection proved how experiential art is a powerful tool for attracting attention and capital, altering a space, and providing entertainment.
Process
By sharing the CODAworx RFP listing, CODAworx and Panasonic Connect were able to reach artists from around the world. A jury evaluated entries and selected Alessio Cassaro, CEO of Antaless Visual Design, as the winner. Many elements came together: stunning projection art from Alessio Cassaro, incredible projectors from Panasonic, permission to display the art on the exterior of the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, and videography from Yes We Are Mad, all proving how a space can almost instantaneously be animated. People stopped along the street to observe the graphics twirl and shimmer. Onlookers shared their thoughts about what they were seeing, and the bright patterns cast by the Panasonic projectors added excitement to the evening. The projection lasted a finite number of hours, but people in the area, CODAsummit: Experience attendees, and guests at the Hyatt Las Olas were able to observe it for a time. Press efforts both prior to and after the event helped build hype and document the impact.
