Overview
“Setting the Tables” is a transit art project for three stations along the SBX E Street Corridor Bus Rapid Transit route. It takes its cues from the site, Hospitality Lane, a restaurant zone in the city. Plates are the focus of this project with a play on two meanings of the term– dinner plates and tectonic plates which form the invisible structure of the underlying soil. An arrangement of plates– commemorative as well as anonymous ones, are arranged onto tectonic maps of each station's locale. This layering of the immediate with the intangible creates colorful patterns.
Goals
The goals for this project were to enliven three transit stations within this entertainment zone with a mysterious portrayal of site.
Process
The collaboration involved interaction with the arts consultant and transit authority to refine the vision for the artwork.
