Overview
This piece consists of 1,080 aluminum tiles, each printed using a dye sublimation process. Each tile dangles from a single, hand turned wire hook. The hooks are each set into a painted, laminated wood backboard.
Goals
This piece was originally created for the sake of creating a beautiful expression of art. It was later discovered and purchased by the client to bring art into their space. The work was conceived to transform any space by bringing color, reflective light, and movement. That is exactly what it does in its current location.
Process
This piece is based on an original oil painting by artist Francine Huss. It was then translated to sculpture by Philip Lynch.
Additional Information
A legend from ancient China tells how koi that succeeded in climbing the Yellow River falls near Dragon Gate became dragons. In this way, koi symbolize evolution, growth and transformation.
