Overview
“Rebirth” depicts Sky Cubacub, founder of Rebirth Garments. Rebirth Garments are designed and made by Sky as they create gender non-conforming custom clothing for the FULL spectrum of gender, size, and ABILITY. This mural was created with Sky Cubacub’s portrait being at the center surrounded by an explosion of colors, energy and spiritual vibration. The goal was to use the medium of paint to demonstrate Sky’s fierce practice and embody, as they refer to it, their “spirit of radical visibility”. Brave Space Alliance houses this mural and is noted for their significant contribution to underserved neighborhoods in Chicago, they are the first Black-led, Trans-led LGBTQ Center who has supported the community during the COVID-19 pandemic through their food donations.
Goals
The goal is to heighten the inclusive work being done by Rebirth Garments and Brave Space Alliance. When agencies like these and the impact of a mural like “REBIRTH” cross-promote and work towards the same goals, the possibilities extend to true social change.
