Overview
Rainhive was created from over 1700 pieces of hand sculpted resin. Commissioned by 2nd Wave Development for their Asbury Luxury Condominiums property, this artwork resides in the main clubhouse and sales office. A combination of clear, frosted, pearl, cream and gold sculptures hang from a 15′ ceiling in a beehive shape that spans over an 8′ x 8′ x 8′ area.
Goals
One of the goals of this artwork was to create a show stopping, but tranquil ceiling installation for potential and current residents that visit the main clubhouse and sales area of Asbury Luxury Condominiums. Another important factor in the overall design was to create a light and floating, yet substantially immersive artwork for viewers.
Process
I collaborated with two people at 2nd Wave Development, both of which gave me considerable creative freedom to design and create this piece. The only stipulations were a color scheme of whites, creams and golds, to be directly installed into an 8' x 8' area of the ceiling and to be finished in 6 months.
