Overview
Fabricated in marine aluminum with marine paint at over 50 feet in length. This important detail was appreciated by the sponsors due to the site frequently flooding during certain times of the year. Amaral Custom Fabrications saved time and money by using marine aluminum rather than the stainless steel that was anticipated. Hoops of aluminum extrusion were rolled then welded into the suggestion of bicycle wheels. Rolled aluminum plate was shaped to mimic the rolling hills of the ride’s course.
Goals
"Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa" The Des Moines Register's event started in 1973 by John Karras and Donald Kaul, and now is the largest bicycling event in the world.
Process
During the discussion phase, it was pointed out that the site frequently flooded with up to 6 feet of water. Having decades of marine building experience, ACF knew the solution.
