Overview

A number of pieces of original wall art were included in the design for this new hospital. A Call for Entries was issued in Albuquerque and my six batiks were chosen to hang in the main lobby near the gift store and the Founders Wall. The unusual medium and contemporary style work with the lines of the architecture.

Goals

This hospital includes many windows and courtyards, integrating the structures with their surroundings. My Southwestern landscapes portray scenes in a wilderness area not far from the site and serve to help bring Nature into the building. Water images are included in some pieces to add to the healing atmosphere.

Process

Artwork that already existed in my inventory was purchased. Because there were questions about the medium of batik, the hospital art committee requested that I bring several pieces to them before purchase. When I delivered the work, I was able to answer questions from committee members. The batiks are framed with UV-protective plexiglass, as specified by the client.
