Overview

Point of light is a 6 foot by 10 foot bas relief of fused glass components mounted over a back-lighted acrylic wall using stainless steel and brass hardware, created for the executive offices of and interstate banking concern in their newly occupied corporate headquarters building.

Goals

The designer, part of the bank community, wanted to create a special piece as the focal point for this special suite of offices that was larger in scale and told something of the story of the dynamic growth of the company, incorporating the colors of money (gold and silver). It was a singular piece not picked from an existing catalog of art, but rather especially for the venue.

Process

Recommended by the project architects and designers of the building, we first looked at examples of other bank projects, a collection of images of favorable styles and colors, and then offered several "rough sketch" proposals, followed by two selections more refined, and finally a rendering and material samples . Every meeting was a collaboration of the owners (designer), the architects, and myself.

Additional Information

We had considered "big bank bang" as a title until the designer offered "Point of Light" to characterize both the flow of the piece and the idea of an illuminated vision that grew outward to become the large banking concern of today. I had thought about the creation of a larger universe, exploding from a point outward, ergo the "radiating" visual layout!
