Private Residence

Inspired Interiors recently converted a Chicago two-flat into a 4,200-square-foot-single-family home. The goal was to create a unique space that reflected the owners’ Texas roots and allowed the young couple with four children under the age of ten enough space to accommodate an active “family” lifestyle.

In homage to the owners’ Texas upbringing, Inspired Interiors incorporated several taxidermy pieces, such as antlers and a big horn ram mount, throughout the house. They are one component in a series of 3D artwork installations the designers used to create additional texture throughout the home. For example, a collage of vintage doorknobs lines the wall in the first floor powder room (owners can add to the collection as they choose); large painted vintage doors create a backdrop in the buffet area; an earthy collection of twigs surround the entertainment center in the family room; and the original glass fireplace doors now line the staircase to showcase photos of each of the kids.

Inspired Interiors chose pieces that made the home authentic and reflected the family’s personality and lifestyle.

Additional Information

The owners, passionate about sustainability, wanted to incorporate recycled architectural elements where possible and so Inspired Interiors sourced several vintage light fixtures from the 60’s and 70’s on e-Bay. In addition, the designers refinished two vintage/ turn of century American Standard cast iron tubs, salvaged excess tile from various job sites and kitchen cabinetry from decommissioned sites.
