Overview

Mine Craft, 2017,19' x 12' x 8″, printed glass louvers, stainless steel frame, LED lighting. Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program.

Goals

As a result of our studies of the iconic imagery associated with Colorado, we drew inspiration from the geography, industry and global presence of the state, and explored a variety of methods to represent these abstracted elements through the use of digital fabrication.

Process

To achieve the desired result based on the artist’s concept, Philip Vourvoulis and Triview Glass developed a several iterations of tests and samples to hone in on color saturation, levels of translucency and variations in different fabrication techniques for the site specific conditions.

Additional Information

The artist chose glass, rather than the original materials, to represent Colorado's native mined minerals in a streamlined way that elegantly blends contemporary art into classical architecture. The transparent glass louvers are a complex, digital simulation of mixed materials and can be backlit at night, enhancing the delicate integration into the massive stone facade.
