Description: LANTERNS was installed as a symbol of achievement and an ever-active lifestyle of the retirement community in the area. Lanterns are global symbols and sources of light and often represent vitality and good luck. Each lantern individually spins with the wind as the upper section of the sculpture rotates as well. This creates dancing patterns of colors and reflections that are lively and fun. At night, LED lights inside each circle illuminate the spinning lanterns within.
Goals
The City of Fremont wanted a sculpture that integrated with the modern architectural aesthetic of the new Age Well Center where this piece is located. They also wanted a narrative that would speak to a multicultural community and specifically asked for a kinetic piece that would give clients a momentary pause of excitement and enjoyment.
Process
The City Fremont came to us asking if we would design a sculpture for their currently under-construction AGE WELL CENTER.
In consultation with them, we brought this idea before the Fremont City Arts Council where it was unanimously accepted.
Logistics, due to Covid restrictions, on construction and installation were complicated. Working with the City Project manager and Building Contractor we successfully completed and installed this piece in time for the grand opening of the AGE WELL CENTER.
