Overview
Mushrooms create dense systems of interconnectedness in forests.
This interconnectedness parallels human social structures.
A “Fairy Ring” ensemble of five 20&x27; stainless steel, mirror-finished
mushrooms, scaled to nestle within the buldings and landscape.
At night the sculpture transforms to a set of spectral, luminous lanterns,
rendering the bosque a gently illuminated forest tableau.
Goals
We wanted to create an imaginative immersive path to the residential tower playing with scale. The mushrooms provide a lit, protective covering for people arriving at the residence.
Process
We worked with the landscape architecture firm PMG Landscape Architects to create a curving path with appropriate plantings and Gingko trees that compliment the shape of the mushrooms.
Additional Information
The mushrooms are each lit with polychromatic LEDs on timers. This allows the strata of the residential tower behind to play with the lighting for each season.
