Overview

“I am Here @ Astor Place, NY, Dec 23, 2019, 12:41pm” is inspired by the everyday; captured first as a photograph and then translated into sculpture. Harumi hand sews and layers industrial plastic mesh in orange (a holy color in her native country of Japan), rendering the depth and volume of people and the urban environment. Through this work, Harumi aims to express the unique and sacred significance of singular moments.

Goals

The artwork produced for FaceBook, “I am Here @ Astor Place”, would provide a sculptural snapshot of what accessing, engaging, and coming together looks like in a space truly meant for everyone. My artwork would be documenting and celebrating the diversity of the community that surrounds the Facebook NY Office.
