Client: James A MIchener Museum

Overview

This sculpture was initially created during the International Turning Exchange Residency in Philadelphia PA. This sculpture was selected by the Center for Art in Wood for their permanent collection. Since this selection it has been on loan at the James Michener Art Museum.

Goals

This mobile currently resides in the entry point of the Michener Museum. It has also been displayed at 80 Washington Place, a townhouse in New York City originally owned by John Phillip Sousa. It's movement is affected by the flow of air from outside as well as the movement of patrons as they walk under the sculpture. Though out the day, the piece changes as it is light from the atrium windows is captured in the mono-filament patterning interspersed with the steam bent wood.

Process

The creation of this piece was possible due to the time that came out of the residency at the Center for Art in Wood. While the sculpture itself is owned by the Center, they have been generous enough to loan this piece to provide a focal point at 80 Washington Pl. residence in New York as well as the atrium space at the Michener Museum.

Additional Information

The title of this sculpture was given in recognition of the collaborative help of my wife Stephanie during the residency. I would not have been able to accomplish this piece or the many others we have worked on together without her tireless efforts and artistic insight.
