Overview
Heliconia Growing was commissioned for Village Books, an independent bookstore located in historic Fairhaven, WA. The sculpture is twenty-one feet long and incorporates hundreds of pieces of glass. Each piece of glass is attached with custom welded fittings and built LEED certified.
Goals
The goal was to provide an iconic image in a multilevel space, cascading from the 3rd floor ceiling to the ground floor entry space.
Process
Morrison Glass Art was approached by the business owner to create a sculpture that reflects our need to preserve and cherish our natural environment. The colors were inspired by the artists trip to Costa Rica where he was enchanted by the variety and colors of the Heliconia flower.
Additional Information
This sculpture, suspended in space, has become a community icon and reflects the need for shared stewardship of our planet.
