Overview

Sculpture commission seeking artist's rendition of Four bronze lifesize 6 foot sculptures depicting the 4 Greek Muses, Euterpe, Terpsichore, Melpomene, and Thalia, to be placed at the entrance of the Jefferson Performing Arts Center. All design components including figure poses, costume design, site locations for each sculpture and pedestal design were created by the artist.

Goals

The goals for the commissioned artwork was to welcome visitors to the Jefferson Performing Arts Center and stimulate curiosity about the arts which were expressed in the performances within the Center. In addition, the client wanted to beautify and soften the modern exterior with a neoclassic design that would compliment the facade.

Process

Designs, charcoal sketches and maquettes were initially provided with artists potential concepts; client and architect for the JPAC were consulted and collaboration between all to determine the appropriate design , specific site location for each sculpture. Appropriate orientation to compliment each sculpture within the group and site to maximize interaction quality. Electrical and structural engineers were consulted and provided services. Artist contracted all necessary services to bring project to completion within budget and schedule.

Additional Information

Plans for the remaining 5 Muses to complete the grouping for 9 Muses are under discussion awaiting final details and funding.
