Overview
This is a life-size bronze sculpture of a fir fighter in action. The sculpture is customized with the fire departments helmet, insignia and name on back of coat.
Goals
This project is memorializing emergency workers. This sculpture is a focal point of pride for the community.
Process
The firefighters poured the concrete base for installation. The artist was commissioned with the custom edition and helped the community fundraise for the piece with the local Rotary club. The artist travelled to the site on several occasions before installing the work with the fire department's help.
Additional Information
This sculpture in made in an edition of 21. It was a visual response to the tragic events of 9/11. At the tenth anniversary of 9/11 an edition was given to the firefighters of Williston Park, NY in memory of their lost comrades. Editions are being places in other states, some are still available.
