Overview

The Dragonfly theme was driven solely by the clients' wishes. Art produced was two Dragonfly Side Lamps – 90”H x 28”W x 34”D; Above Door Panel – 37”H x 82”W x 17”D; 4 Side Lamps – 10’ tall; and 2 Patio Lights – 62” x 22” x 22”, all cast in bronze.

Goals

The format was basically to create pediment above the doors and windows of the house in a horizontal format with the overall theme based loosely on dragonfly designs, pattern, inspiration. In order to do that I just had to get the proper measurements on site, do some basic sketches to submit the overall design to the client. Once client approved contact the foundry to assess the feasibility and potential cost of this project. The goal for integrating commissioned artwork was an overall enhancement of the house and prestige of the house.

Process

My client’s favorite subject was dragonflies and started to create designs to show my clients and to see if it was what she wanted to be manifested in the form of sculptures. We basically assessed feasibility and cost with the foundry, I began to do much more detail and actual sculptures within this established format by continuing to send them to the foundry to make sure we were staying on track with the feasibility aspect. I submitted the final sculptures to the client before casting and once they were approved, we went to production with the foundry. But first we had to do the proper molds for the lost wax casting process, then bring the molds to the foundry to make wax out of the molds, shelling them and starting the casting itself. Once the pieces were produced and we agreed with the client on the type of bronze patina they wanted, we ultimately brought the pieces on site and proceeded with the installation.
