Overview

This mural covers 34' of an 80' curved corridor connecting the Children's Hospital to the Women's Hospital. It is a collage of stained wood veneer, carved wood, acrylic and painted as well as custom etched aluminum.

Goals

The client was looking for a non-linear representation of The Seven Days of Creation that worked well no matter which way you were traveling down the corridor. They wanted something bright and dimensional that could be appreciated by everyone, regardless of it's religious theme.

Process

The client originally showed me an image of a Seven Days of Creation tapestry they liked and the idea of the small squares combined to create a large image just seemed to fit. It also resolved the issue of installing on a curve. There was the regular back and forth massaging out the details, but the client was easy to work with and receptive to new ideas.

Additional Information

The client felt it was important to represent "the creation of man from clay", and since that is the one material I do not work in, we have commissioned a ceramic artist, Cathy Broski, to make human figures that will be installed next month. *Since everything on the mural is at least partially created using a CNC router there is a digital file making it easy to recreate in the event anything is damaged.
