Overview

Cisterra Partners in San Diego had just completed two new beautiful, Class A office buildings on a hill overlooking I-5. The signage on the building did not attract the attention they were looking for so commissioned Kevin Robb Studios to create a 30 foot contemporary stainless steel sculpture. This sculpture was then placed on a 10 foot berm located between the two new buildings. Also, this development partnership believes strongly that incorporating artwork into their projects benefits all parties involved in multiple ways.

Goals

The goals were to create excitement for this new project by incorporating sculpture that could be viewed from the interstate below as well as enjoyed by all the tenets in the office complex. The design had to be one of excitement, upward movement, (but not kinetic), contemporary in nature and could be grasped by just a glance as a person was driving by as well as intricate enough to be appreciated by the clients and employees of the buildings.

Process

The architect first contacted us with the goals already established by the design team and owners. It was our responsibility to present enough ideas to meet all of the goals. When the design was chosen we needed to make sure that it could be scaled appropriately to 30 feet.

Additional Information

Building and installing a sculpture of this size required numerous partnerships including engineering, city permitting, fabrication expertise, shipping, and of course the actual physicalness of installing this sculpture. Kevin Robb Studios had the experience, expertise and resources for this very large scale project and the owners were delighted with the results of this undertaking.
