Overview
This corten steel curved facade is fabricated upon the design of a Chinese artist, installed in Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden in 2009. It is conceptual to the Ideal State of secluded charm in ancient China. This 68 meters (223ft) long facade is made with corten steel for the exterior surface, known as weathering steel with good resistance to rust, fitting in the watery environment, and Q355 carbon steel for the interior structure.
Goals
It possesses the value of both functionality and ornament. The facade is sinuous through the mountain and lake with shadows in water which makes it perfectly integrated with the surroundings, the mountains, plants, waterfalls, adding wonderfulness a lot to viewing. And the section down the mountain brings an experience of thrills but no danger. The whole facade is seemingly a natural fit in the garden where visitors can get various senses of attractions of biology, history, and luxury, etc.
Process
Design, model optimization, fabrication, surface finishing, installation.
Additional Information
With honor, the corten steel curved facade won award from BALI National Landscape in 2011 and award from American Society of Landscape Architects in 2012.
