Overview

“Crescendo” was purchased as part of New Mexico Arts, Art in Public Places “Acclaimed Artist Series”. It was then installed by the artists in the Nursing School Lobby at New Mexico State University, Carlsbad. The piece is the signature artwork of the new LEED building.

Goals

The project called for a large scale work that fit with the vision of the "green" building, and compliment the color and textures of surrounding architecture and fixtures. The piece is 3D aluminum construction, made of up to 50% recycled aluminum and recycled canvas. The depth of the work slopes off the wall from 1" to 6.5" in depth altering the flat nature of the wall and activating the space with unexpected dimension. The color, though minimal, is complimentary to the wall and furnishings, making the piece "pop", and is reminiscent of both a southwest sunset, and blood coursing through veins.

Process

Artists and sisters Dana and Ruth Kleinman bring their strengths of metalworking and painting together to create this multi panel wall sculpture. Thanks to the engineers, faculty and staff at NMSU for choosing the work. And a big thanks to NM Arts for choosing us as artists for this project.
