Overview
Clear solid glass orbs ranging from 2″ to 12″ diameter suspended by stainless steel wire from an 18' diameter steel halo in the entry of the Hapuna Prince hotel
Goals
The intent was to make a sculpture that had a substantial presence in a very large entry space without being heavy or in competition with the incredible view. We wanted to create a gathering space for visitors where the artwork blended with the surrounding natural elements- ocean, sky and rain. The natural light from above illuminates the glass so the piece is always in balance with the day light, night light and the constantly changing weather.
Process
The artists were given complete freedom to design, create and install the piece.
Additional Information
The magic with the solid glass orbs is lens effect they have. Each one flips the horizon 180 degrees- so in each orb the ocean view appears to be on top and the sky view appears on the bottom. At sunset this effect is very effective and mesmerizing.
