Overview

Comprised of a steel substructure with ceramic and glass hand made elements and fiber optic cable lighting with Pharos computer controllers. The 8' x 3' x 3', 1200 lb sculpture was hung from all thread rods covered with white powder coat steel escutcheons.

Goals

Client was looking for hanging sculpture that would respond to the adjacent Potomac River, Washington, DC monuments and work of Washington Color School Artists. Goal was to create a creative, colorful environment for visitors to MGM's National Harbor Casino and shopping colonnade.

Process

I worked in concert with Mark Myers of Atlantic Arts, Annapolis MD, After a conversation describing client parameters I presented multiple 3-D paper designs to client. Once a design was selected by a committee of the project manager, interior designer and MGM president the next step was a small scale version made from the the actual materials.
