Overview

Chapter One Mural
9’ x 10′
Mixed media and acrylic on canvas
Palm Beach County Head Start School
Imaginative murals created encourage engagement in cognitive development activities based on Head Start’s curriculum areas including art, science, language, math, and imaginary, dramatic, manipulative play.
Three unique murals take students on a journey of unexpected surprises, beginning with the “Head Start Welcome” mural, which features an inviting park scene brought to life on the pages of an oversized book.  Followed by a beachside wildlife refuge in “The Early World” mural and a rainbow bridge leading the way to the “Magic Treehouse” scene.
Creative characters, scenes and stories support Head Start’s mission of empowering children, families and the community, and invite all to personally identify and visualize themselves in the positive learning environments depicted.

Additional Information

The artist wrote a poem to accompany the mural "Such a Creature" Such a creature If books had eyes to see Bright lights shining in you and me A nose to sing Of whiff of the flowers gift A mouth to speak A voice, awesome and unique Ears to listen To all you’ve been wishing Arms to hug Held in charms all snug Hands to hold Imaginations out on grand strolls Fingers to feel \linger in moments unpeeled A heart that beats Loud and sweet A tummy to nourish Stuffed with yumminess to flourish Feet to dance Showing off legs with fancy pants If books had all of these things Plus tiny shiny fairy wings Legendary such wonderful creatures would be With very special features indeed A creature we all need Such a creature Could only be a teacher
