Overview
Marine grade aluminum, marine grade paint to 32 feet in height. Designed and engineered to withstand a Category 5 Hurricane direct exposure. For the Hirshhorn Museum Washington DC, and the Seagrams Building, NY. NY. Washington DC version has since moved to the Kennedy Performing Arts Center. Direct optical enlargement from Roy’s maquette and collages. The original location at the Hirshhorn Museum required special consideration in straddling a Civil War era tunnel located beneath the sculpture.
Goals
The artwork's strength and presence allow it to stand alone in any location. Not incorporated into an overall design plan by an architect, wether building or landscape.
Process
Amaral worked closely with representatives of the Roy Lichtenstein Estate to impart Roy's personal essence into the piece, while quietly incorporating Amaral's significant design strengths to guarantee long term survivability.
