Glass installation

Eagle Glass

Overview

This large installation, 24’ x 20’ of stained glass uses over 30 colors employing swoops of black iridescent glass to add movement and echo traditional leaded glass at a fraction of the cost. Textured rain glass forms the substrate with the application of thousands of strips of stained glass, one inch to 4 inch wide pieces. These windows were installed inside using stand offs that matched the original windows.

Goals

The windows are the stars in this nondenominational contemplative Center for Reflection on the campus of the Colorado Mesa University. The colors of the wood, metal and seating are all in neutral colors so that the color of the windows become the primary focus. The vertical strips of lighting echo the liner lines of the stain glass design. The mood is created with a majority of purple, blue and greens with a top center window in warm colors that brings your eye up to the heavens.

Process

Designs were presented, amended and ultimately chosen by the art advisory committee to complement the almost completed building. The stained glass windows were constructed in a Denver studio and transported to Grand Junction Colorado for installation by a local glass company.
