Overview
The City of Dunedin seeks a professional visual artist, or artist team, to create the City’s most important public artwork to date and to evolve a sense of place making within the community. The new Government Center for Dunedin will bring together all city departments under one roof. Located in the downtown of the City, the design of the new Dunedin City Hall is reflective of Dunedin’s coastal location. The roof form of the building is intended to replicate wave formation. The building design incorporates plenty of glass in public spaces such as the lobby and Commission Chamber, and smaller punched windows in offices. Building materials include standing seam metal roofing and stone.
Goals
Successful integration of the commissioned artwork is extremely important which is why the selected artist will work closely with the architecture team early in the process of the final building design process. This will insure the artwork is best positioned and any infrastructure for the artwork can be properly considered.
Additional Information
This RFQ is a national call to artists. It is important that the selected artist engages with the history and culture of Dunedin. The artwork should equally embrace both aesthetics and content. To this end, the artist will work with the architecture team and public art subcommittee, along with other information relevant to the culture of Dunedin
