Overview

Trace correlates the relationship between macro spatial perspective and micro molecular connectivity while representing our communal health and well-being supported through the dedicated care of the ProMedica system. The piece consists of 5,500, 40mm, solid glass spheres suspended with 1064 -1/16″ stainless steel cables. At 20’L x 8’W x 23’H, the piece is suspended by a modular ceiling construct made from (5) CNC aluminum plates.

Goals

The project utilizes the translucency of the glass to present a layered association with the viewer, emphasizing how we see ourselves and the world around us through our communal social systems. Designed with a unique blue color palette, the tonality of the form reflects intrinsic qualities of water and sky that envelope our internal and external worlds, while directly associating with the Maumee River and Toledo as the ‘City of Glass’.

Process

Working closely with ProMedica's internal team in conjunction with the Toledo Arts Commission and public art manager, Nathan Mattimoe, the ambitious project was integrated into the new headquarters with critical contributions from the on site structural engineers, base building team and interior contractors, AA Boos. A dedicated community engagement campaign led by the ProMedica communications team presented the project's process and implementation in a dynamic set of media outlets and civic events.

Additional Information
