Sean Capone (b. Rochester NY) is an animation artist, video projection muralist, motion-capture performer, writer, and occasional curator based in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated with a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1994), and he is a 2020 NYSCA/NYFA Fellow in Digital/Electronic Art. Over the past decade, Sean has become recognized for his digital video works and public art practice, creating site-specific 'video murals' using animation, projection, and public LED screens. This journey began in 2009, when his project 'Camera Rosetum', a large-scale projection installation in DUMBO, Brooklyn, was cited among American for the Arts' annual review of Best Public Art Projects. The following year, Sean was awarded a year-long studio residency through Two Trees/DUMBO Arts Festival after winning the Best Public Art award for his project 'Floralwall.' Since then, Sean's multiple award-winning video works have been commissioned for Pennsylvania State University, ZAZ10 Times Square (NYC), the Supernova Digital Animation Festival, the Digital Graffiti Festival, Night Lights Denver, 150 Media Stream, the Brooklyn Museum, SFMoMA, the Museum of Biblical Art, and the SCAD Museum of Art. He has also presented work in numerous solo and group shows and screenings, most recently for Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, the National Gallery (Washington DC), Telematic Media Art (SF, CA), RIT City Art Space (Rochester, NY), 5-50 Gallery (Queens, NY), and SL Gallery (NYC). In 2016, Sean was an artist in residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha NE).
