Ralph Gilbert is a figurative, narrative muralist and painter whose public work involves diverse cultures, history and connection to communities. He strongly believes that it is possible to create significant public works of art that are sophisticated, yet accessible to a wide audience. While his work is fully contemporary, it respects and draws upon a long tradition of mural painting in western art. In 2005 the National Academy of Design Museum in New York awarded Gilbert the Edwin Austin Abbey Memorial Fund Fellowship and Residency in mural painting.
