Client: The Sinclair Apartments

Overview

Writers is a large public art piece (mural) commissioned by the Sinclair Building in Chicago. It is created in acrylic paint medium. Mural dimensions are 140′ x 28′.

Goals

A 4 story parking garage was built on a site that was formerly a parking lot. The structure blocked the neighborhood's view of downtown. The building is named after Upton Sinclair and the neighborhood is called "Sandburg Village" after the author.

Process

I thought that it would be smart to celebrate some authors because of the building's title and name of the neighborhood. I made suggestions as to whom we would paint - a diverse group and men and women. Together with the building management we decided upon these 5 authors.
