The artist created over 9,800 SF of interior murals and streetscape made from printed wallpaper and 3D architectural elements to simulate the outdoor environment in Las Vegas, Nevada. To achieve realistic views an RTC transit rider would see while traveling, 25-foot high murals were created from actual building photos, and the Las Vegas Strip and the mountains were depicted along the perimeter. Architectural elements such as awnings, doorways, ramps, and staircases complete the streetscape effect.

The Regional Transportation Commission’s (RTC) Mobility Training Center was created to educate Southern Nevadans, especially senior residents and persons with disabilities, on increasing their mobility and using RTC fixed-route transit service safely and properly. The goal is to aid people in developing the skills and confidence necessary to travel independently. The mobility training is free in either a one-on-one or group training program.

Gensler was the architect-of-record. Sparkflight Studios' scope included design, art direction, and art creation. Photos of local buildings were manipulated to create 25-foot high building murals on wallpaper, mimicking a city street and simulating transit rider views. 3D architectural elements were applied to finish the effect. Along the interior perimeter are original vector, full-color murals of the Las Vegas Strip, suburbia and mountains.

Additional Information

Training staff will often use landmarks during training sessions to orient passengers, and the murals were created specifically with this intent in mind. Overall, the murals and streetscape create a rich atmosphere for all people to experience mobility training in an imaginative and informative way.
