Artist
Joe Barrington
Overview
Approximately 100′ x 100′ sq.ft. courtyard artwork and design
Goals
As artists, fabricators and designers our courtyard design completely integrated signature works by Barrington, known for creating mythical and real Texas animals, and Conley, known for her collection of phrases heard aloud then reinvented into sculptures. To create a space that would tie education, business, the region, and inspire contemplation for students, faculty, staff and visitors the courtyard demanded both abstract and specific elements.
Process
Chosen based on our interview, previous work and original models, we signed the contract knowing the client wanted an immediate redesign that included Conley's phrases and the icons from the original design as well as totally new elements, a bull and bear by Barrington. Conversations, drawings and feedback created a special integration of ideas. The viewer is guided by lit archways from a distance, reads inspiring text at their feet, and comes eye to eye with a bull and bear while walking over commodities with dynamic market energy above.
