Overview

The design required 3 Fuji fine art photographic water prints backed onto plexi to be placed on the corridor walls behind the concierge area. The image sizes are 8’ x 22.5’, 8’ x 12’ and 8’ x 19’ for a total width of 53.5’ linear feet equalling 428 sq. feet. There are 14 panels weighing 90 lbs. each.

Goals

The twin tower condominium is in the desert of Las Vegas. The goal was to create an oasis in the midst of the desert using a water theme to calm the viewer and to create a sense of belonging and meditation. The size of the images allows the on-looker to feel immersed in the water. In the context of a living space, it promotes the concept of the natural elements as a reminder of their beauty, power and importance. The overall interior design of the building uses the water theme in flooring, fabrics, and furnishings, including a running water wall behind the concierge desk.

Process

My client happens to be an art aficionado who understands design and has great vision. Because of my previous installations he had faith in my ability. As the artist, I appreciate working with an experienced team to produce the work. John Rhodes, owner of Colorchrome(my printer)and his team work with artists as well as commercial clients. We spent many hours refining the images prior to printing. I was behind the scenes as they printed and adhered the prints to the plexi panels, applied the hardware and crated them for shipping to Las Vegas. Once they arrived, Martin Harris Construction handled the installation. They worked diligently while I was there and completed the installation in two days.

Additional Information

Water Way is the third large scale installation I have produced and the largest of it’s size. Each time I learn more about the collaborative process. Artists generally work alone. Being part of a highly skilled team encourages support and peace of mind.
