Overview

‘Urban Helix’, created by artist Susan Kaprov is an 8′ x 55′ fired enamel on glass wall installation in the entrance lobby of the Polytechnic Institute of N.Y.U. URBAN HELIX evokes the visual convergence of science and advanced technology with a thriving urban environment.

Goals

Urban Helix is a consists of striking images, symbols and encoded messages inspired by nature, science, and technology, all of which flow freely within an imaginary urban grid. Fabricated in fired enamel pigments on tempered float glass, the work merges computer-generated imaging with contemporary painting techniques.

Process

Collaborative architect on the project was Davis Brody Bond Architects of NY. We worked together developing the installation method, appropriate lighting fixtures, and the use of permanent media i.e. fired enamel on tempered glass set in a galvanized steel frame.
