Overview
Untitled (Views) is a collection of 4 photo murals conceived and created for ceiling niches directly over imaging stations at the Evelyn Lauder Breast Care Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The images, ranging from 14 to 16 feet in diameter, are photographs looking straight up into tree canopies.
Goals
To enhance the design of a very technical space and to provide a beneficial distraction to patients undergoing stressful diagnostic tests such as CAT scans and MRIs.
Process
The center was envisioned by Evelyn Lauder and the Breast Care Foundation. The incorporation of art and therapeutic design was central to the project from the beginning. Ms. Lauder and her staff sought out a variety of artists for the center. Many works were outright purchases; Untitled (Views) was commissioned for the project. Artist Stephen Galloway created the high resolution images, which were then fabricated and installed by Duggal Solutions in New York.
Additional Information
The artist worked closely with Alice Momm, curator at the Breast Care Foundation, and Louis Laurieno, printer at Duggal Solutions, New York, NY, throughout the fabrication process.
