Overview

Peppi's House is a Hospice Facility that was made possible by generous donors to Tucson Medical Center. The project consists of two 8'x4' ceramic and glass tile panels inset within a curved block wall. The project greets visitors as they enter Peppi's House Hospice at Tucson Medical Center, Tucson, AZ.

Goals

I was asked to create a work of art that would also serve as a donor recognition wall honoring those who had given so generously to the project. My goal was for the art to reflect the spirit and the mission of the facility and the caregivers. The art is the first thing visitors see and it was meant to be beautiful visually as well as tactile. Tactile art is often soothing and meditative two things needed at a Hospice Facility.

Process

I worked with the designers to understand the architectural design and interiors in order to create a design for the donor wall that visually integrated with their plans. The walls were inspired by textile art created by indigenous cultures in Arizona. This resonated with the design team and metaphorically made sense to the client. Many people and services come together to provide a holistic, meaningful experience for hospice clients and families. Textiles bring together many different patterns, colors and textures to create a cohesive work of art.
