Overview
“Triffid V”, aluminum sculpture spins a visual tale.
“Triffid V” spins a visual tale inspired from John Wyndham’s iconic book, “Day of the Triffids” about rogue plants, exposing the frailty of human existence. When placed outside, the piece moves in the wind with the dynamic sensibility of a living plant. The visual implication is that the deadly Triffids of the novel have a hidden goodness, fun can be had, and all ends well.
Aluminum, powder coat paint, 50″ x 55″ x 93″
Goals
The theme of the exhibit, “Time Space Existence”, inspired me to capitalize on the potency of optimism with “Triffid V”, an assemblage of three plant-like objects, painted in highly saturated colors.
Process
An invitation was extended to me by the European Cultural Center, Venice (ECC) in 2019 to exhibit a sculpture in the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennial “Time Space Existence” in the Giardini Marinaressa, Venice, Italy. This garden exhibit highlights commissionable sculpture in keeping with the Biennial’s theme.
