Overview

Inspired by the aerial view of the Holmdel Eero Saarinen’s architecture, this artwork draft a physical link and became “the fabric” connecting the past, present and future of this historical building.
Honouring a research facility this iconic building once was, this woven Totem will be the opportunity to draft a singular identity between the technological advancements and the “Metroburb” it has become.

The weaving is composed of the original cables form past constructions along with added elements such as, Copper threads, transistors, aluminium coated threads, rubber strings, fibre optic, metal screws, nuts and more.
The woven artwork, which is 40”W x 80”L, enable each visitor to dive into the history of the building.
Different mounting finishes were possible regarding the aesthetic desired for the artwork which include a crystal resin coating, a clear acrylic box or a wooden panel fixture.

Goals

This commissioned artwork has become the symbol and statement piece of the campus. Historically drafting a link between the past and present of this iconic Building.

Process

I worked closely with the commissioner who provided me with old cables and other elements dating back several years ago, from the original building's construction. Once the sketch, colours and sizes were confirmed, I started the production of the artwork combining the original elements from the site as well as other fibres and components such as raw copper and rubber yarns.
